Tennessee draws 9-seed in College Football Playoff, will travel to Ohio State for first round matchup

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Tennessee will travel to Ohio State in the first round of the college football playoff.

The postseason appearance marks the first playoff appearance for Tennessee in program history.

The Volunteers will battle Ohio State for the second time. The first came in the 1996 Citrus Bowl where the Vols defeated the Buckeyes 20-14.

Ohio State is making its sixth playoff appearance. The Buckeyes won the first playoff game in 2015 and have made two championship game appearances.

This is Tennessee’s first time playing for a national championship since winning the 1998 national championship.

The game is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 21 at 8 p.m. on ABC and ESPN.

The Tennessee Fund said tickets are extremely limited, with only six sections accounting for 3,500 seats being reserved as “official Tennessee sections.”
