Leang Leang History
The limestone mountains of Leang Leang Maros are one of the largest Karst regions in the world, behind the Tsingy region directly in Madagascar and Chalin in China.
You will also notice some similarities with Cracker In Thailand, a long Gulf in Vietnam, although this is no longer underwater!
Of course, limestone erosion is great to create caves, so there are hundreds of them in Leadg, and it was a bunch in prehistoric times.
The caves in Leang Leang were discovered by two Dutch explorers in the twentieth century, but until recently it was not that people realize the age of artwork and value.
The current estimate is that the paintings of Indonesia Cave here are 40,000 years old, which makes them the oldest photo artwork in the world, as well as the oldest known hunting scene.
More prehistoric caves and art in this field are still discovered, and Indonesia applied to UNESCO To get it as a world heritage site.
Leang Leang Maros – What can be expected
• Cave panels
The cave panels are found in Leang in a high cave that can only be accessed by climbing 25 steps on a built -in metal staircase in the rock.
Watch your step, because the corridor is narrow and the smooth rocks can be slippery.
At the top, hanging on the cave wall, you will see half a decorative of primitive paintings that show human hand prints and Babi Rossa (wild boar).
If you look around, you will also find a guarantee in the rocks, indicating that this entire area was submerged in the Java Sea.
It is an interesting place and thought. A long time ago, someone left his mark here.
• Carters Rock Park
When you finish exploring caves, there is a rocky garden outside with many unique limestone rocks.
These are naturally composed of strange and cold shapes, including the dog, heart and some different rock windows that you can search for.

Where we stayed
We stayed in 3 stars Pason Hotel in MakasarPay $ 20 for a dual room, especially with a cold A/C and a hot shower.
They have a location restaurant and a beautiful swimming pool. My only pain is that WiFi is really slow. However, I did not find a better value in the Makassar region! It is difficult to overcome this price for a double or double room.
Prices may fluctuate from time to time, so just watch a good deal.
