Huemul Glacier is a nice small picnic near El Chalten, in the Patagonia region of Argentina.
I did this height recently and really enjoyed it! They are short, easy to cost relatively, and you can see some gentle mountains, iceotens, and bright blue lake.
It is a great way to spend a day between walking for long distances like Fitz Roy and Laguna Torre, and most people visit El Chalten do not know this spot yet, so it is still a little hidden jewel.
This travel guide will explain how to reach Hueemul Glacier, and what is expected to rise!

How to get there
Huemul Glacier is about 35 km north of El Chalten, and you can get there by car or bus.
The drive takes 1.5 hours by car or two hours on the bus. Everything is on narrow stones, but it is comfortable enough.
Your hotel at El Chalten can book the bus for you, or you can Book it via Zona Austral. I found it easier to arrange through Jurisdiction.

Mountain views on the way to Huemul
The bus cost is 25,000 peso per person to get a back and forth ticket, which is about $ 23 from 2025. It deserves it!
The best views of the road to Huemul are on the left side of the bus, where you can see Fitz Roy and some other wonderful mountains.
I took the bus at 8 am, then I went back at 4 pm. This gave me 6 hours of spare time, which was more than enough time to do the height and also a vision of Lago del Disero near.
If you have additional time, you can join the boat riding around Lago Del Deserto!

Huemul Glacier Hike: What can be expected
This height is short and easy, with a little slope near the end. You may not break sweat.
Before starting to walk long distances, you will already get a great view of TrailHead ice rivers while walking through the fence and backward pasture of the cow.
From here, the corridor is mostly shaded by a green moss forest, and there are many cute waterfalls along the road that deserves a short path.

Forest path
It takes less than 30 minutes of walking long distances to reach the lake base and see the ice rivers, which is amazing.
Unfortunately, I had no great weather, so it was cloudy and a little rainy, but on a sunny day the water can be very blue!
Sometimes if you are lucky, you can see Huemuls Wild here (South Andean Deer), which is how the place gets his name.
I have seen some mosquitoes in the lake, and I saw some reports on flies, so you may want to bring errors in a state.

Huemul Glacier & Lake
There was a handful of other hikers in the lake, but for the largest part I had everything for myself, which is nice. Most people still do not know that.
If you want to go forward, there is a side route at the top of the hills on the eastern side of the lake, giving you looks on the lake from the top.
It only adds 15 minutes to the height, so I highly recommend!
